SANDFIELD FARM
STABLES
At Sandfield, we house 49 stables, arranged both in barns and outdoors, catering to the unique needs of each horse. Some horses thrive when stabled next to their companions, loving a sense of security and camaraderie, while others prefer the solitude of a box on their own. This variability in temperament is crucial; ensuring that each horse is placed in the right environment can significantly influence their mentality and help mitigate stable vices. By carefully considering the preferences of each horse, we aim to create an atmosphere that promotes their overall well-being and optimises their training potential.
GALLOPS
Our training facilities feature a two-and-a-half-furlong circular gallop, with the addition of a four-furlong hill that adjoins the circle, allowing for a variety of training routines. The gallop's surface is made from Fibrelock sports fibre, which provides optimal cushioning for the horses, ensuring their comfort and reducing the risk of injury during training sessions. In addition to our primary gallop, we have access to Langton Wold gallops, which boast excellent grass surfaces, along with all-weather options, including a six-furlong and a one-mile two two-furlong track.
PADDOCKS
At our training facilities, we prioritise the well-being of our racehorses by ensuring they are turned out every day during their training regimen. We believe that regular turnout is essential for their mental health and overall happiness. Our facilities include three small enclosed paddocks, which provide a safe space for our horses to enjoy the fresh air and stretch their legs. Additionally, we have access to larger paddocks. For those horses on holiday, we also utilise fields away from the yard, allowing them to relax and rejuvenate in a tranquil environment.
LUNGE RING
The lunge ring is a crucial component of our training regimen, playing a vital role in easing horses back into work after a break. Additionally, we utilise the lunge ring frequently for fit horses on lighter training days, allowing them to maintain their fitness without overexertion. There are also specific horses for whom we conduct all their steady work on the lunge, who only get ridden on work mornings to do their fast work, and who seem to thrive on this routine better.
OUTDOOR ARENA
The 60m x 40m outdoor arena, featuring a robust rubber and sand surface, is an extra useful facility, particularly during the winter months when the paddocks become too muddy. This enclosed space provides an optimal environment for loose schooling and turnout, allowing horses to stretch their legs and engage in natural behaviours without the risks associated with wet ground conditions. The combination of rubber and sand not only offers excellent traction but also minimises the impact on the horses' joints.
